The team’s first loss of the season was a result of critical mistakes.
Colts Struggle Against The Rams, Again!
The Los Angeles Rams secured a thrilling 27–20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at SoFi Stadium, both teams now holding a 3-1 record. The game was marked by a series of costly mistakes and penalties from the Colts, who had been undefeated prior to this game. These errors played a significant role in the Rams win, as the Colts struggled to maintain their composure and discipline throughout the contest.
The Colts missed a chance to score a 76-yard touchdown in the third quarter when second-year wide receiver Adonai Mitchell dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line. This resulted in a touchback and a costly turnover. Later in the fourth quarter, a 53-yard touchdown run by running back Jonathan Taylor was nullified by a holding penalty on Mitchell, another missed opportunity.
With the game tied at 20-20 late in the fourth quarter, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford connected with wide receiver Tutu Atwell for an 88 yard touchdown pass. Atwell got behind the Colts defense, which had only 10 players on the field for the play, to score the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes remaining.
The decision to place struggling cornerback Xavien Howard on wide receiver Puka Nacua proved detrimental to the Colts, as Nacua continued his remarkable start to the season with 13 catches, 170 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 29 of 41 for 375 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Kyren Williams added 13 rushes and 77 yards.
Quarterback Daniel Jones completed 24 of 33 passes, 262 yards, and one touchdown but had two turnovers. Jones’s first turnover of the season came on an interception to Rams S Kam Curl when he sailed a pass intended for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The other turnover came within the last seconds of the game when he threw a pass intended for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. but was intercepted again by Curl. Running back Jonathan Taylor added 17 rushes for 76 yards. Rookie tight end Tyler Warren scored his first career NFL touchdown on a 2-yard rushing touchdown.
