The Colts suffered another tough loss and lost their quarterback for the rest of the season.
Colts were defeated by the Jaguars with a score of 36-19.
The Indianapolis Colts’ struggles continued as they dropped a 36–19 matchup to the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking their third loss in a row. Although the Colts had moments where they looked capable of closing the gap, consistent mistakes and missed chances kept them from gaining momentum. The defeat pushes them further behind in the AFC South race and adds pressure to turn things around before the season slips away.
After a promising start to the season with a 7-1 record, the Colts are now facing significant challenges. They have suffered three consecutive losses, dropping to an 8-5 record and now in the third spot in the AFC South standings, behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. To make matters even more concerning, Colts quarterback Daniel Jones sustained an Achilles injury in the first quarter of their game against the Jaguars and will be out for the remainder of the season. This injury comes as a setback, especially considering that Jones had already been dealing with a fibula injury to his left leg.
Backup quarterback Riley Leonard replaced Jones in the game and completed 18 of 29 passes for 145 yards and an interception. Running back Jonathan Taylor concluded the game with 21 carries, 74 rushing yards and a touchdown. After the game, it was reported that Leonard sustained a knee injury and will be doubtful to play in week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks. With Anthony Richardson Sr. still on the injured reserve list and will not be activated this week. The Colts are attempting to navigate this situation, as Leonard is the only active quarterback on the roster. Brett Rypien is currently on the practice squad, while rookie tight end Tyler Warren serves as the team’s emergency quarterback.
Philip Rivers, the former quarterback for the Chargers and Colts, turned 44 yesterday. Recently, it was reported that he has been working out with the team. The team is contemplating whether he might join their practice squad. Rivers last played in the NFL in 2020 when he played for the Colts and led the team to an 11-5 season before transitioning into coaching high school football.
