The Colts have lost two consecutive games for the first time this season.
The Houston Texans defeated the Colts with a score of 20-16.
The Indianapolis Colts, who had a remarkable start to the season, have encountered some setbacks, including consecutive losses and a loss of their lead in the AFC South division, which is now held by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After a disappointing loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in week 12, the Colts followed it up with a divisional loss to the Houston Texans, falling 20-16. However, with the win, the Texans have not only advanced their playoff hopes but have also strengthened their chances of clinching the AFC South division title.
The Colts had concerns entering the game. Quarterback Daniel Jones had a fractured fibula, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren was absent from practice due to illness. However, it was later announced that Warren would play in the game. There were doubts about whether Jones should play, but after a team doctor’s examination, they reported that he could play with the injury and that it could heal without further complications.
Jones completed 14 of 27 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns. However, the offense struggled on third and fourth downs, with only 3 successful attempts on third down and none on fourth down. Jones faced pressure for a high percentage of his drop backs, despite being sacked once during the game. This was because his inability to be mobile in the pocket hindered his effectiveness. Running back Jonathan Taylor was limited to 85 rushing yards on 21 attempts, as the Texans strategically prevented him from making a significant impact on the game.
Miscue and controversy calls.
After the game first touchdown by the Colts, kicker Michael Badgley missed the extra point. During the game, the referees missed a delay of game call on the Texans, resulting in a DPI call on DB Kenny Moore. This DPI call gave the Texans a first down, leading to their 19-13 lead. After the touchdown, Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn missed an extra point. However, the officials mistakenly called it “good,” which means it can’t be reviewed.
