Colts released cornerback Julius Brents.
In a recent decision, the Indianapolis Colts released cornerback Julius Brents. Brents was drafted out of Kansas State by the Colts in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft after the Colts traded back with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons. Brents’ journey to the Colts was quite intriguing, considering his Indianapolis roots.
Much like Jelani Woods, Brents couldn’t maintain good health in a position group that desperately needed cornerbacks. In his rookie season, Brents faced significant setbacks due to a wrist injury before the draft and a hamstring injury during training camp. Despite his return, he suffered a mid-season quadriceps injury, which resulted in him missing six games. He also sustained a hamstring injury in the season finale, ultimately ending his season after playing just 9 games.
In the 2024 season opener, Brents suffered a severe knee injury, tearing his meniscus and MCL. Consequently, he was placed on injured reserve and missed most of the season. He was later activated from injured reserve and returned to practice in December 2024. Despite limited snaps in the final game of the season, he sustained a groin injury in that Week 18 game.
Brents is currently in good health and would be an excellent addition to a team who needs help at the corner position. Brents was praised for his exceptional size, length, and athleticism. However, his on-field technique is unrefined. If he can improve his footwork, discipline, and fluidity to complement his natural size and strength, he has the potential to turn his career around.
